Honor Redeemed (Keys of Promise Book#2)  by Christine Johnson.

Little description:Her future–and her heart–hang in the balance.

Two years ago, Prosperity Jones waved farewell to her beloved David as the army sent him to faraway Key West. Now with her parents gone, she has but one prospect for the future: make the dangerous journey from Nantucket to Key West to reunite with David and secure a happier life.

But when Prosperity arrives penniless in the South, she is dismayed to find David has not been eagerly awaiting their reunion. In fact, he is married to someone else. Scrambling to survive and nursing a broken heart, Prosperity gains the friendship–and the affection–of a kind doctor. Could he be the answer to her loneliness? Or will her life be upended by circumstance yet again?

With a deft hand, Christine Johnson fills the senses with the sights, sounds, and smells of Key West in this heartwarming story of honor lost, honor redeemed, and a love forged in adversity.

My thoughts: 5 stars out of 5

Christine Johnson surprised me! It was my first book I’ve read by her, and I loved it. The story events and the characters lead me thinking that I figured out all of it. Yet at the end I was totally shocked, and I was proved again to be wrong. Don’t read further for more spoilers, just go and grub the book for yourselves!

Prosperity had it all planned out, the future with her beloved David whom she new well enough to trust with all her heart. Keeping peace and waiting for his return back to the island, back to her, she rests assured he will be back. Two years passed from the time she last saw him… With his piece of hair in the locket she carried close to her heart, she spend her days carrying for her sick mother. But another day came… the day her mother was gone…and her future looked dark and uncertain. With only one person she could have a new home, and new sense of living, she decides to take the dangerous voyage and come to her David. But coming to a new life meant to lose all she previously new. With her fiancee gone, marring off to some tavern “girl”, Prosperity starts over, even with her former fiancee living on the same street. She tried to avoid the meeting with David, but his “life accidents” kept coming bombing at her…
