The Good Book (40 Chapters That Reveal the Bible’s Biggest Ideas) by Deron Spoo
Little description: The Good Book offers a user-friendly guide to the Bible’s biggest ideas. A chapter from the Bible accompanies each chapter of the book, which helps readers understand the context and content of the Scripture passages in a way that can open the whole Bible.
Designed as a forty-day journey through forty key chapters of the Bible, The Good Book will appeal to those who already love and read the Bible regularly as well as to those who are just beginning their Christian journey.
The Good Book:
- is a great evangelism tool for explaining the major themes of Scripture to those who want to know more about God, Jesus, and the core beliefs of Christianity;
- gives new believers an overview of the Bible and lays a framework to help them understand Scripture passages;
- helps longtime Christians rediscover the basic themes of Scripture and experience these truths in a new way; and
- encourages Scriptural literacy as it pushes readers to read both one chapter of the book and one chapter of the Bible each day for forty days.

My thoughts: 5 stars out of 5
I thought this would be another theological spiritual book filled with tough and unbearable concept about Bible passages. To my surprise Deron Spoo chose very easy-to-understand voice in dis-ciphering 40 biggest ideas through the Scriptures…
Here is the short overview. The author divided 40 hot related topics to every heart and divided in 5 groups: In the Beginning Deron discuss how we are more like God than we think (through creativity and will… the Creation; readGenesis 1); when everything goes wrong and ends up broken-including us (the sinful fall in the Garden of Eden; Genesis 3); why we need to stay afloat even in troubled times (I am sure you know the story of Noah and the Flood, or even saw yourselves in some tough situations; Genesis 6); when faith isn’t safe (through Abraham’s life we see that the road of faith demands risks and great rewards mixed with the losses; Genesis 12); and what to do when God asks tooooo much!!! (He did tested Abraham’s faith through the Isaak’s sacrifice; Genesis 22)… Will we ever dare to trust God that way?
The second section talks about God and how He is Good when life gets messy: On a first-name basis with God (here God teaches Moses the purpose of his life in the desert; Exodus 3); what to do when the life seems out to get you (Exodus 14); and what about 10 keys you can’t live without (yes, the dreaded and impossible to fulfill 10 commandants; Exodus 20); with every passing year God can and will use your failures (as He did with Samson in the Judges times for Israel nation; Judges 16), and do you know why heard times help to build stronger character in you for greater purposes (read 1 Samuel 17).
The third section is titled God is Big. Do you believe that? With Job you will discover how to make sense of your suffering (Job 1); David will teach you to forget the funeral- this is life through Psalm 23 (this Scripture teach you to have life and abundance with Jesus as your Good Shepherd, Who will guide you to the best finish)… What about guilty but at peace (See Psalms 51). Of course God is closer than you think (Psalms 139); dig into the Words of Wisdom (Proverbs 1)…
What about Tough Love, Troubled Times, because this is section fourth: the real face of Jesus (Isaiah 53); Inferiority and Obedience (Jeremiah 1); Whose side is God on? Read Daniel 3. Integrity under the fire (Daniel 6); Man on the run (Jonah 1).
Have you ever wondered why there Two Testaments?
Find more topics about Jesus and how He changed the course of History, because it is His Story of love, redemption and Kingdom… Glory to God!
One of the best Bible studies ever! A simple, yet humorous lessons surely will help everyone who takes on to journey through this book to discover deeper treasures of God’s Words.
